Hi, I'm Marissa

I love all things pregnancy, gentle-birth and women’s health, with a special interest in helping women to prepare for childbirth and overcoming hurdles in labour.

I’m passionate about autonomy for women and informed choices, and I’m certain that bodywork before and during labour play a very important role in positive birthing outcomes. I have attended three workshops with Spinning Babies in the last 18 months, including one with Gail Tully, the founder of Spinning Babies.

My interest in pregnancy and post-natal care was sparked at 22, when I fell pregnant with our first child, Alela, whilst studying massage therapy.

At that point life changed immensely in a very short period of time. As I faced important choices, learning curves and life decisions, I was struck by how little I knew about pregnancy and mothering! Despite having empowering birth experiences and wonderful family support, I found my experience of early motherhood to be very challenging and isolating and I know this is the case for many.

My own experiences have led me to notice ‘gaps’ in accessible pre and post-natal support and education. Running this business is my way of doing my best to support others in the ways that I myself found difficult during pregnancy and beyond. I’m a massage therapist and yoga teacher, but I also offer resources to connect you with further support and education so that you can navigate your own way through this vulnerable and formative time with confidence.

I work from my studio in Auchenflower, where I offer massage therapy, birth preparation, card readings, private yoga classes and sound meditation.

Are you looking for birth support? Please ask me about it and I might be able to help you.

I Treat women at all stages of life, mothers or otherwise.

Pregnancy Massage

Empowered pregnancy and birth are at the heart of what I do. I love helping women to find ways to learn more about their own bodies, capabilities and choices for a more healthy, enjoyable and fulfilling experience of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood.

High quality, in-depth training is essential for safe and effective pregnancy and post-natal care. For this reason I chose to undergo Pre and Post-Natal massage training with Pregnancy Massage Australia and I've recently been expanding my knowledge of optimal positioning, body balancing and birth solutions with Spinning Babies.

~

I’m currently training to become a Pregnancy and Postnatal Yoga teacher with Yogababy, and I'm excited to be furthering my studies in the future to include additional 'Spinning Babies' training, childbirth education and more.

Benefits:

Pregnancy massage can help to relieve common issues such as sciatic pain and back, neck and shoulder tension, and are great for helping the body and mind to relax, connecting with yourself and your baby, and to prepare physically and emotionally for childbirth.

Post-Natal Massage

Post-Natal treatments are conducted in a similar way to pregnancy treatments, supporting your body during the post-natal recovery period and acknowledging your current needs which are changing (yet again!) as your body adapts to new motherhood.

Benefits:

Post-natal massage can help with physical post-natal recovery by soothing the nervous system, aiding circulation and muscle recovery and relieving neck, shoulder and back tension. It's also very emotionally soothing, giving you the chance to rest and recharge.
